Training is supported by an NIDCR National Research Service Award Institutional Training Grant (T32).Postdoctoral trainees must have received, as of the beginning date of the NRSA appointment, a PhD, DDS/DMD, MD, or comparable doctoral degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution. Research training is designed for those individuals having significant previous research experience. Support is limited to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Beginning dates of appointments will be after July 1, 2008. Trainees from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups are specifically encouraged. UCHC is an equal opportunity employer M/F/V/PwD. Training opportunities are available in molecular, cell and developmental biology, cancer biology, genetics, immunology, microbiology, oral disease, biomaterials, tissue engineering and stem cell biology related to skeletal and oral tissues including bone, cartilage, and teeth. The goals of this program as defined by NIDCR are to: produce dentist-scientists to conduct clinically-relevant oral health research; train a multi-disciplinary cadre of talented investigators for careers in dental and craniofacial science; and, develop the next generation of dental school faculty. A position is available immediately for a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The position requires a Ph.D. and experience in cell and molecular biology. Experience in cell signaling mechanisms, cell-cell adhesion and cell matrix interactions is preferred. Projects in the laboratory focus on the matrix receptor syndecan-1 and its regulation of tumor cell invasion and tumor-induced angiogenesis. The laboratory is funded by NIH R01 grants, although the candidate will be encourage to apply for individual fellowship support. The University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of the top public research institutions in the United States and Madison is an active college community that offers numerous cultural events, and is surrounded by lakes and countryside that offer outdoors activities.
